Childhood Bedroom Recreation
3D Environment Creation
For this project, we were tasked with producing a photorealistic recreation of a space that was important to us when we were younger.

This is a room in my grandparent's apartment in Moscow, full of whimsical trinkets and antique furniture. Not only was this space really fun and special for me to explore as a child, but it posed a really great modeling and texturing challenge.

I created two final videos where a camera shows off the space.

I was responsible for everything you see: modeling, texturing, lighting and cameras.

I haven't been in this room for over 8 years, so recreating this space was incredibly special. I loved the process of assembling the room, especially getting to add a bunch of easter eggs (see if you can spot a family photo!)

I love exploring the stories that physical spaces can hold, so this is still one of my favorite projects I've ever worked on. In the future, I'd love the opportunity to do more environment creations like this!

The Process
Concept
After I decided on recreating this particular room, I studied many photos of the space, like this one of me and my grandpa having a dance party, to get reference for the furniture, lighting, layout and proportions.

Modeling and Texturing
I then went into Maya and modeled all the different pieces of this room, from the old TV to the intricate teapots.
Then, I UV unwrapped the furniture and used Substance Painter to create textures.
Lighting and Rendering
Finally, I set up lighting to mimic the sun streaming into the window in the morning, which is how I remember the room. I then set up several moving cameras to show off the room, and rendered out the final product.
